Nausea after eating

Anonymous
I had a virus of some sort last weekend -- fri/sat and a little on sunday. It was mostly fever with one hour long bout with nausea and intestinal distress. I never threw up, just felt horrid. Now, the fever is gone and I feel fine, except I get really queasy about 30 minutes after I eat. It lasts a few hours.

Is this just part of the virus or is this something else? I feel really gross and it needs to stop!!! Tums are not helping. Other suggestions welcome. I'm already eating a really bland diet, and not much food at one time.

Google gastroparesis. Sometimes it happens after a virus, in which case its usually temporary. if it lasts for a few weeks call your doctor.

I have another form of it that is permanent (though episodic).

Could be your gallbladder.

Gallbladder, sister.

It only gets worse, ugh.

I had gastroparesis for about 8 months after a really bad virus. The best way I could describe it was that it felt like there was sludge in my stomache. It was awful but I am back to 100% now.

OP here. Ugh, I read up on gastroparesis and it sounds like that's a possiblity. I suppose it's worth going to the doctor to get an actual diagnosis. Do they medicate this condition? I've got small children and serving meals was REALLY difficult today. I just need to be able to function.

If this lasts 8 months, I will be a bag of bones.

16:21 again. I have the permanent kind of gastroparesis and I control it through diet. Certain foods are more difficult than others to digest. Nuts are impossible. Ditto oily, fatty food. starches are the easiest. Fluids, including milkshakes, are completely fine. if its bad I will drink Ensure (which isn't bad if you refrigerate it). Its only been a few days so I wouldn't jump to any conclusions. Its even possible that this is a particular, limited, aspect of the virus you had. If you can call the doctor, rather than go in, you could get some guidance.

Oh, generally no medication although sometimes antibiotics help because they accelerate motility. There's also a drug called reglan but it has the potential for nasty side effects. I've never used it.
