DC Salaries and Cost of Living

Anonymous
What is a considered a normal average professional salary in the DC area? I'm not talking about the partners in Big Law. But just regular people with professional degrees and well into their employment life. Say maybe 20 years of work experience in the same field. I know we all complain about the COL here, but is it really that much more then the rest of the country and do our salaries compensate for the difference?

I don't know what a "normal" salary is but I know that in our case that cost of living did not make our salaries higher. We moved back to Ohio and made about 5 percent less but the cost of living is much much much lower. We are in healthcare, DH a physician and I am a CNA.

What is a professional degree? And do you realize that different industries have different pay ranges?

For arguments sake, let's say anything beyond a BS/BA. Yes I realize that different industries have different pay ranges. But your job doesn't change what it costs to live in DC. Roughly, we all pay the same for a gallon of milk.

What's "normal" is somewhat of a Rorschach test, I suppose, but I think a normal professional salary for this area with the experience you mention is somewhere between $110 - $150K, with a lot of government lawyers in there.

Yes, with 20 years experience and at least a Bachelors degree, I would say average is $100 to $150K/year.

give or take 50k!

I think the majority of "professional" households here (with one or two incomes) make a HHI of about $250K.

10 years experience here - income is $170K to 190K. By 20 years (mid 40s) I'd hope to see $250K+

Marketing analytics.

What kind of marketing analytics could you possibly do if you are completely unfamiliar with figuring col? Your analysis consists of one gallon of milk? Really? Don't count on much, OP.

Oh, and everyone in D.C. has at least one degree, FYI.
