Colleges for the different drummer

DS is an excellent student. He loves digging into meaty intellectual fare. He's also very lefty and culturally alternative. He's looking for a school with kindred spirits. I'm assuming vegetarian food is available everywhere. So which schools are welcoming to the "highly individual" and very dedicated student? And which have the strongest academics.

Punk rocker. No tattoos yet, he's too young, but I fear that day will come. He's straight, if that's what you were wondering.
