529 for non- citizens / residents

| Both my kids were born here, and are citizens. Dh and I are on work visas, so neither citizens, nor permanent residents. Is there any 529 or similar that does not require the account holder to be citizen / permanent resident? |

| I think you need a social security # to open a 529. I needed one for my daughter (her SS#). I don't recall if I had to put my SS# down. I don't think there is a citizenship requirement. The savingforcollege.com website is very helpful, check that. |
