Recommendations for preschools in the 20010 area?

Anonymous
I'm starting the search for a preschool for my DD for Sept '09 and would prefer a school not too far from my house. Does anyone have any recommendations for preschools near the 20010 zip code area -- Columbia Heights, Mount Pleasant or close by those areas?

Seriously, I live in 20011 and can't think of any place. But you might try Amazing Life Games (I think that's what it's called), which is on 16th Street. I know a family whose child is there and they are very happy with it.

Thanks, I have heard good things about ALG as well and plan to check it out. I'm just having a hard time finding anywhere other than ALG. I have a hard time believing there's nothing else around here. I just don't want to spend most of my time driving to and from the school if DD only goes for a few hours a few days a week, yet I don't want to trade easy commuting time for quality care. Ugh!

There's also Little Flower Montessori on 16th Street. I had no luck actually making an appointment to visit or getting any information of any kind out of the various people who answered the phone or getting a call returned from the director. That said, my neighbor's daughter is very happy there.

I second the recommendation for ALG, but we never got off the waiting list there.

I think there's also a D.C.-run coop preschool program in Columbia Heights.

We ended up going outside 20010. Good luck!

What about Rosemont Center
2000 Rosemont Avenue, NW
Washington, D.C. 20010
Phone: 202/265-9885

I have friends who have their kids there and love it.

OP here. It's so ironic that you mentioned Rosemont because just this morning I drove by it on my way over to Cleveland Park to run errands and made a mental note to myself to look into it. Thanks for reminding me!

It is bilingual and I hear the program at Rosemont is wonderful

I'm curious if you found anything. I'm in the 20010 zip code as well and am having a really hard time finding a good place. I actually applied and planned to send my son to Little Flower. I had (and continue to have) quite a horrible experience with them. To save on a long-winded story check here on the Columbia Heights forum for my story: http://www.columbiaheightsnews.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=875

I've had to expand my search and actually took a tour of Friendship Children's Center in Chevy Chase this morning...mostly because it's in my son's Grandmother's neighborhood, but I really would like to stick to my neighborhood.

I plan on looking at Rosemont and Amazing Life. Did you find any others? What school did ultimately you go with?

PP, did you get your money back?

What about the DCJCC? I have no experience with it and have seen threads about it devolve into unpleasant back-and-forths, but it's probably still worth checking out.

Nope. No money returned. They never answer the phone when I call (I guess they have caller ID)...I can't get in to talk to them face-to-face since they are always locked up and I have to ... you guessed it CALL to get them to let me in! It's just all sooo sooo very unprofessional! I'm 37 weeks pregnant with some minor complications, I'm out of steam dealing with this so they've pretty much "won" they have a free $500 from us.

Yeah, I saw those threads after I had trouble getting them to respond for a tour; I've tried several times - after all that negative stuff about the school combined with their lack of interest in returning my calls I gave up on them.

Good luck with getting into Rosemount. It is very difficult to get a space there. I have been on a waiting list for over a year.

You might want to check out Temple Sinai; it's a very easy trip over Military Road. We LOVE it.
