We were lucky enough to borrow a co-sleeper for the first kid, now we have to buy one. What's the difference between a co-sleeper and bassinet, just that the co-sleeper seems to attach to the bed and a cradle/bassinet doesn't? Seems like there are some bassinets a little cheaper than the average $140 for co-sleepers I'm seeing.
Also, if I found one on Craigslist or something, is it gross/dangerous to buy a used co-sleeper? Even if I bought a new mattress and sheets? |
Bassinette is free standing; co-sleeper attaches. I personally wouldn't buy a used one, unless I borrowed it from a friend and knew the history. My friends and I are all in the bassinette camp or pack n play camp...sturdier, fewer recall issues, etc. I ordered a cosleeper online via babies r us, and it came delivered with quality issues already (e.g., plastic warped, wheels broken, etc). I returned it immediately for a Fisher Price Bassinette and couldn't be happier. The bassinette cost a bit more, but it has more accessories, including a rocking/vibrating/music function. Key for soothing. |
We have a mini-co-sleeper you can buy cheap (very clean, etc.). But, if I had it to do over again, I'd get a bassinet that rocked. Co-sleeper was fine, but not some miracle and it doesn't rock so it's hard to soothe db once you put them down. |
It sounds like rocking is key, but really? Doesn't the baby get overly dependent on rocking to sleep? Or is that a short-term phase, and they can transition to the crib with no problem? I just have this fear I'll be rocking or the baby will want to rock as some major sleep ritual for every nap, every night, etc ....
I was planning to get a co-sleeper so I appreciate the contrary opinions! |
