My child was disciplined for passing gas (farting) in class. The teacher told me that it disrupted the class. My child says he couldn't help it. |
What was the discipline? |
Stand in back of room. Went to principal with teacher at lunch. Extra homework and letter. |
Seems a bit extreme to me. I'd want to know if there's more to the story. Perhaps he was being disruptive in other ways as well? If passing gas was all he was doing, this is inappropriate discipline. I would simply call the child up to the front, tell them their gas is disturbing others, and perhaps give them a pass to the bathroom. |
Was your child also acting up while passing gas? |
How old is your son?
If he is 8 or so or older then there is more to this story. I bet that if you talk to the teacher in a no accusatory way, you are going to find out that the flatulence was the final straw in a string of bad behavior. |
Oh, and OP, from one mom of boys to another, this is not something to get worked up over. This is the kind of story you and your husband need to laugh about behind closed doors, and tuck away to bring out at the appropriately embarrassing time somewhere in the early teen years. |
He said it didn't even stink. |
You sound like a child. |
Is the discipline right? |
Maybe check his sense of smell? |
I'm thinking it was probably one of those issues where he farted, people laughed, so he kept doing it. I don't know any teachers who would discipline for passing gas unless it was being done deliberately, for a laugh, or to be disruptive. We all know how kids can be... |
How do you "keep doing it"? Its not like you can summon a fart. |
At least he didn't point his finger like a gun, then he would be suspended.

You can't be serious. You've never been around a male who delights in pushing them out, one after another? Lucky you. I remember boys in school who you never wanted to be seated next to, because they always seemed to have a bomb ready to drop. |
