| When I got pregnant with my DS, I had just come off a second cycle of clomid (I had a cyst so they pulled me off for one month), was using progesterone suppositories, and getting acupuncture. I obviously don't know what led to success, and who knows maybe it was a fluke. But we are wanting to try for #2 and I'm not sure how to go about it. I know it's a nebulous question, but does anyone have any advice for what to do? Should I try "naturally" for awhile before going back to my clinic for clomid? Should I even use clomid since I got pregnant on my month off (I understand it might still have been in my system even though I wasn't taking the pills). I wasn't so crazy about acupuncture but what if that was the trick? I am not really sure where to "begin" the second time around..... Again I know it's not a very clear question but any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated. |
| How old are you? |
It doesn't cost anything to try yourself. Make an appt with your OB/GYN (or whoever treated you the first time around) and in the meantime, get busy.

OP here - I'm 31.
I guess I just don't want to do the emotional roller coaster again. It was really tough emotionally the first time (as I'm sure many on here know) and it was just crushing to try each month and fail again and again. I just wonder if, once you know you can't do it on your own if it just makes sense to jump into all the assistance you used the first time. |
| I certainly don't think it was the Clomid, so I wouldn't rush back to that. I would try for 6 months, before getting checked out again by an RE (and your husband too). Or try acupuncture again. I do think that many people are more fertile once they have been pregnant, so I think it's likely to work for you without assistance. |
| You did not need "that" much help the first time and it seemed to happen relatively quickly (w/ minimal help from the clinic) and you are not old- So I would absolutely wait 6 months of TTC naturally. |
I agree with other posters that there is absolutely no harm in trying on your own since that is really how you were successful last time around. It sounds like the process was tough for you even without needing very much help at all (it was a really small drop in the bucket of IF treatments), so maybe it would help to have clear ideas in advance about how long you will try on your own, what your next steps will be, what is involved with them, etc. |
