Brookmont, Glen Echo and Cabin John

My family is relocating from DC to Bethesda, mostly for the schools. While we've been very happy with our charter school, I long for a tighter-knit community centered around the neighborhood school (which isn't an option in our neighborhood). We considered buying in Palisades, AU Park or Chevy Chase DC, but were discouraged by the majority of families sending their kids to private middle/high instead of the local public. No flies on private, but we're committed to public education and want our child to grow up with neighborhood kids who go to school together. What is the public/private dynamic in the Whitman cluster? We're looking specifically in Brookmont, Glen Echo Heights and Cabin John. Thanks!

Glen Echo Hights (is that wood acres?) would be a great transition from DC and has some similarities to the palisades but more suburban.

Glen Echo Heights is Woodacres. Glen Echo, Bannockburn, Cabin John and Brookmont among other neighborhoods feed into Bannockburn. These neighborhoods are very community oriented. I don't know a lot about Glen Echo Heights. You can't go wrong with any of these neighborhoods.

Glen echo hts is probably 65-70% public, or it was when we lived there. Our current neighborhood (still Whitman) is about 50/50, with many kids going to catholic schools. We switched from private to public and have found it made a big difference in community connections, even with many families attending private schools. Whitman has been a great experience. And even if DCs friends aren't all in the same neighborhood they are all within a few minutes of us.

Congrats OP! We were priced out of that area for what we were looking for but I love it. I'm sure you'll love it!!
