New Families to St. Albans - How Do You Like It So Far?

Anonymous
We will be applying this year, despite what I must say are some rather frightful stories about the rigor and toughness of the place on many levels. Can any new families to the school (DC is currently in 3rd grade) share their experiences?

I'd also like to hear from 4th and 5th grade families who have been there for a year or so.

I have more than one there -- and can say that what someone said to me rings true. It is one of the worst schools from the outside looking in (I think they meant physical plant, reputation, homework levels, etc) but the best when you are in the inside looking out. I agree with that. We have found it much more welcoming then ever anticipated, much more open and flexible than the reputation would suggest and the physical plant is hugely improving. The transition to 4th is tough, but for everyone -- Beauvoir boys included. I think this would be true for any school which has intake at 4th from what I hear from our friends elsewhere as 4th is just a step up.

Talk to parents if you can during the process, and ask the admissions office for specific families to talk to if you don't know many people.

How have those non-Beauvoir families found the experience so far?
