The majority of rifles in this country are semi-automatic. Semi-automatic means that for each pull of the trigger one and only one bullet is fired. The AR15 style rifle that is being portrayed as an "assault weapon" is a semi-automatic rifle. Semi-automatic rifles such as the AR15 are not fully-automatic. Fully-automatic means that for every pull of the trigger multiple bullets are fired. Fully-automatic rifle are heavily regulated, extremely rare, and extremely expensive. And by expensive I mead upward up $20,000. And although the semi-automatic AR15 looks like the rifle that is used in the military it is very very different. The military version is fully-automatic. Contrary to what the media is telling us, semi-automatic rifles like the AR15 do not spray bullets.
The term "assault weapon" is being used to describe semi-automatic rifles because it is similar to the term "assault-rifle" which technically describes fully-automatic rifles. |
| And the point is??? |
| The point is that the guns that everyone is seeking to ban are no more dangerous than the average hunting rifle. They are NOT the "weapons of war" that the media is saying they are. |
| I don't think they care about education or facts. They just looking for faked media reports and manipulated statistics. |

It's not its status as a semi that makes it dangerous. The AR-15 is a military weapon. It shoots a .223 which .22 ammo with an extra charge. It leaves the gun with a lot of force and then tumbles when it hits a body. It's designed to do a lot damage to the human body. It isn't a useful gun for hunting because it shoots .223s which wreck the deer's body. It's an excellent distance weapon. It also has a relatively high capacity and comes with magazines of 20, 30 or 40. That's a lot.
It is a popular gun with crazies. It was used by the DC snipers and by shooter in Aurora and the shooter in Sandy Hook. Banning it won't stop all mass shootings (Loughner used a .9mm), but it's a good, incremental step. Another step would be to ban magazines of more than 7 for hand-guns or more than 10 for long weapons. |
| All bullets tumble when they impact something hard. Plenty of people hunt with a .223. Is a bolt action .223 less dangerous than a .223 AR15? besides, where in the constitution is hunting mentioned? |
| What hunting rifle needs a 30 round magazine? The only purpose for these type of weapons is to effectively and efficiently kill large numbers of humans. Seems like an eminently sensible idea to prohibit them. |

The OP just admitted gun control works. Why do thugs and crazies not use automatic weapons all that much? Because the market for them was CONTROLLED, which threw up huge barriers for consumers to get their hands on them.
Put up legislation for mag cap, and all semi-autos and the same thing would happen to that market. Keep your bolt action and single-action revolver. |
How many rounds can you fire in a minute with a bolt action rifle? Let's not play dumb. There's a reason people buy them. Otherwise everyone would be carrying a deer rifle. |
| The problem is that you all are racists and afraid that black Americans like myself want to buy an AR15 for home protection. This ain't about public safety, it's about you being racist. |
| Nice try. |
That actually describes what I thought of as an "assault weapon" pretty well! I wasn't envisioning a machine gun. Just a gun where you can fire maybe one bullet every 5 seconds. Bam. Bam... Bam.... like that. Is that about how fast they can fire, OP? It sounds pretty bad to me. And I can't see why you would need an AR15 for hunting either. I hope this weapon will be banned. |
Oh i see. You describe every modern gun. Single shot bolt actions aka Hunting guns aka sniper rifles, and shot guns and revolvers and semi automatic pistols. So in your mind every guns is an assault weapon. Thus we conclude you wish to ban every gun. Congrats ! You are a super genius! |

The 2A is not about hunting, lets just look to china to how it takes care of its people, who dont have guns......
Not well. The 2A never mentions 'guns are only for hunting'. If read right, then if the military has it, so should we. |
