As a former college admissions officer and the parent of 2 students who have gone through the application process (1 more to go), I'm a big fan of the NYT admissions blog, The Choice. While some of the posts there can be frustratingly noncommital (a familiar tone when you ask admissions staffers for advice, I know), this piece by a Tufts admissions staffer is thoughtful and fresh:
