pros and cons of rolling money into TSP

Anonymous
Has anyone considered rolling money into TSP?

I was looking at the rules, and I would appreciate anyone's insight. Thanks!

I did. I preferred keeping my money in one place. The fees for the TSP are low.

Pros are fees are rock bottom.

Cons are there are only a handful of index funds, so if you want to invest in Fidelity's Contra fund, or a Latin American renewable energy sector fund, you are out of luck.

Can you move your money out to regular IRA or Roth without penalty? Thanks!

Do it - the fees are super low so you keep most of your gains and the returns on some funds are amazing. And the site is so easy to use if you want to switch between the funds, see monthly returns on the fund choices, etc. And taking a loan if you need to is super easy and the interest rate is like 2%.

No, I think once it's in TSP it's treated like any other contribution.
