3yr old..slight limp

Anonymous
About a week ago, had the bounce house set up, 3y/o boy was bouncing & started to cry & pointed to his foot. Was limping noticeably when he got out, but not complaining of any pain. It seemed to go away mostly, but I still noticed a slight favoring on the right side w/the foot turned slightly outward. Took him to the doc, who did not seem concerned at all really, gave orders for an xray of the right side if it continued after a few days...now it's been a few days. He insists that his foot does not hurt & is tearing around everywhere like a madman, as usual. I hate to get xrays done for nothing...any advice? Thank you!

It sounds as if you would be following doctors orders either way. If you can sit him down and press firmly in the area and move all joints around you are likely OK. Also put him through a few tests - can he go up on tip toes, hop, any hesitation jumping, etc. Assuming he is also no longer limping you are probably OK.

He is still favoring it slightly & seems to be pointing his foot outward a bit. We will get the xrays to be safe. You would never know it though...although I haven't tried the tiptoe test. I'll try that. Thanks, I'll try to update w/results.

It might be a hair line fracture which is enough to make the foot feel very tender, but not enough discomfort to immobilize you.

Or it could be that DS just tweaked his foot a little bit which I find myself doing. After hobbling and walking-it-off a day or two, then I sorta resume my normal activity.
