Best Ice Hockey Programs in the Area

Anonymous
I'm relatively new to youth ice hockey, with my 6 year old daughter just joining a team this season. As she gets older, what are the best ice hockey programs in the DC area to get involved with? I'm thinking about club hockey rather than school programs, although I suppose I would also be interested in which schools have particularly good hockey programs.

Where exactly are you? Reston is very good. Kettler is just starting out. Rockville (Mont Co) is good also. DC proper doesn't have a good one.

The bext program is the one closest to you. AT 6 your daughter is likely to enjoy a house or travel leauge for years before joing a girls programs such as the Washington Pride.

Enjoy a travel league?

Do you know how much time/money/effort goes into a travel league? How competitive they are? What a far cry they are from a house league? I have 2 who play in a travel league--it's no-$h!t travel. VA Beach. Philadelphia. Boston. Detroit. Lake Placid. It's not like travel soccer (which they also play), where "travel" means drive 40 minutes to the nearest team.

Baby steps. Learn how to play, and the program strengths vary by location.

I wouldnt encourage a child to play more then one travel sport unless they are Bo jackson. My sons played travel hockey through Midget AA and High School. He now plays club hockey in college, still loves it.
