Bare legs for holiday party?

Anonymous
I've got a sleeveless knee length dress. Am I really supposed to go bare legged with strappy shoes in the middle of December?

No. It looks ridiculous.

I have the same q - peep toe shoes. What to wear? Heavy black stockings?

1. Why are you wearing a warm-weather dress in the winter to begin with?

2. Peep-toes are also summer-only. Put them back in the closet.

I think peep toe shoes look ridiculous with stockings. I am on the younger side (30) with nice legs, so I never have a problem going bare-legged in winter, which clearly other people think looks ridiculous, so I don't know what to tell you...

OP again. Just as I suspected. No consensus. This sucks.

It's a holiday dress in a deep red. You think you are only allowed to wear long sleeved dresses in the winter?

If it matters, I'm thin and have decent legs. I still just don't feel right wearing nothing in the winter. And even if I wore nude hose, it still gives the impression of bare legs.

I have no idea what the current rules are about bare legs. I just know that I will not wear a dressy dress without hose. I see women do it all the time at church and to me it just doesn't look good. Not sure why. It could be simply the way I was raised.

If I were wearing a pretty red holiday dress to a party, I would probobly go with nude hose.

PP, have you been holiday dress shopping lately? There are zillions of winter-appropriate party dresses that are sleeveless.

OP, I would probably wear nude hose, but that's b/c I'm not philosophically opposed to pantyhose unlike many other women, it seems. But that being said, I think it's fine to go to a holiday party bare legged. It's not like you're going to be waiting outside a club freezing your ass off, right? You'll get out of your car/metro, and be inside quickly, and if you have a long coat to wear, then bonus! Go for it!

OP here again. I just can't do sleeveless and strappy shoes in this weather. I'm bailing on the whole outfit. Dressy short skirt, long sleeve top, nude hose and peep toe heels. It's not worth the social (fashion) anxiety.

I'm a pro-nude hose person, so that's not an issue for me. I know the haters will chime in!

If you want to look 90, go for it. 75% of the people will look old too.

I'm the person who posted about the same q. My dress is back w lace overlay and below the knee - not summery at all. Shoes are nearly closed toe, just a little peep. Leaning towards no hose.

No. Wear it with a jacket, hose and closed toed shoes. It's December. No reason why you can't wear a sleeveless dress if you pair it with a jacket or nice cardigan sweater. You are totally overthinking this, honey.
