Hello
I was diagnozed with GD and was monitoring my sugars. In the 2 weeks of monitoring I only had 2 high fasting numbers (99 and 104)? other than that I am pretty good (fasting 82-86, breakfast 110s, lunch and dinner around 90s). I am on modified bedrest and was supposed to see my endo one week after i started monitoring. I got a bit of cold and cancelled appointment. Now I am thinking whether I need to reschedule my appointemtn or not? I.e. I do not want to get off bed unless absolutely needed. I do not want to pay my co-pay ($40) to just hear from the doctor "Your numbers are good, keep it this way". I doibt he will be doing any extra tests or give me meds if my numbers below tresholds. Maybe there are ladies who had followups with GD and they could share what to expect from those appintments. |
I would call the endo and explain the situation. I would also fax him/her your numbers (this is what mine wanted me to do every couple of weeks anyway). If I remember correctly, my endo did do some blood work during the follow-up appointment but he was pretty happy with my numbers, so he never brought up insulin... |
OP here
As i understand your endo did not ask you to change any of your diet? |
No, he was happy with how I was doing... |
OP here, do my numbers seem ok based on your experience with that? I will call endo on monday and try to have sort of phone consultation...
The other thing is that i worry about my numbers never go blow 80 even fasting, I wonder if they should. Also somehow my body returns higher numbers after breakfast (about 110s) while after even heavy dinner (like christmas, I had low 90s after 1 hour), seems like my body process food better in the evenings.. |
PP here. Bear in mind that I am not a doctor, so I can speak about my experience/understanding only.
My fasting numbers were never below 80. The threshold I was given was 95. But my impression was that the endo was not concerned about numbers below 100. Also, I think he looked for a trend, i.e., that the fasting numbers were not increasing over time... I had to check my numbers after 2 hours only: they had to be lower than 120. I had some higher numbers here and there but my endo was not concerned about it...I think the fasting numbers were much more important to him. |
OP here
Thank you very much. I do understand that you are not a doctor, just wanted your experience. My endo is not very easy to give consultation over the phone, he wants me to come. I will try monday, maybe I can fax my numbers to him and then he would call me if anything seems to be not ok to him |
sounds like you are doing a great job managing your GD with just diet=congrats, it takes effort! i was a GD with first pregnancy and this pregnancy with the luck of goddess, somehow i'm not! but i would go in b/c they do monitor other blood tests like your A1C and endo's look for different things during a basic physical exam that sometimes we arent even aware of! but sounds like your numbers are great! |
