First visit w/ Dr. Nancy Durso next month

Anonymous
Has anyone been to Dr. Durso? I did a search and didn't find a ton of info. She was recommended by my gyno, along w/ Shady Grove Fertility and Dominion Fertility. I got the impression that Shady Grove is an IVF factory, and my husband and I don't know if we are willing to go that route at this point. I'm 34 and we've been trying for six months. My GYN said that since I'll be 35 in a few months that I should be proactive and see a doctor about it. I'm having regular periods and peak results on my clearblue monitor, but so far no luck. My husband is convinced he has a low sperm count because his dad did. We just want to have diagnostic tests to see if there is something wrong and then proceed from there.

Six months is usually the recommendation to see an RE if you're 35 or over, which OP will be in a few months.

I've never heard of Dr. Durso but anywhere you go -- Shady Grove, Dominion, Columbia, GW -- can run the tests and give you advice. It's unlikely that IVF would be the first recommendation, so I wouldn't let that stop you from going to Shady Grove if you otherwise would.

Hi-
I understand where you are coming from. We started testing when we had been trying for about 8 mos, and we did not want to go to an RE b/c we were not interested in doing IVF.
I do not know anything about Dr. Durso.
My DH's Primary care physician ordered a semen analysis for him at about the 10 mos mark. It came back fine.
At that point I switched to Tepeyac Family Center for Ob/gyn care. They have alot of expertise in fertility and will do alot. They also try to figure out why conception is not happening- more than it seems like RE's often do- since they do not see IVF as an option.
I have been very happy with Tepeyac. Our one miracle pregnancy resulted in a miscarriage.

Depending on your insurance, your OBGYN may be able to order a sperm analysis for your husband. Or a urologist can order one as well. You don't need to go see an RE just for that.

I saw Dr Durso when we were looking for an RE. We eventually went with Shady Grove because Shady Grove seems more organized both medically and financially. Dr Durso seemed like a very nice person and if I were looking for a small practice I'd definitely consider her. One good thing there is that I think she does most of the procedures herself including HSG.

Can't even find her on Sart.org or the cdc listings.

Dr Durso is the only physician at Muasher center in Virginia. Check for Muasher in databases.

2350, where would you go for fertility treatment in the area?

have heard of Durso...the woman who used her LOVED her.

I went to Dominion...I would recommend Dr. Gordon in a heartbeat.

And at 35, I think your OB/Gyn has been SO kind to recommend that you start seeing an RE. If I have any regrets...its that I waited so long to get some help. I think if we had been more aggressive, sooner, we may have not had to go to the degree that we did to finally get our little ones.

Just an FYI...Dominion is one of the only clinics around that uses NCIVF. What a great option for you!! Cheaper, would address low sperm count (if that is the issue), and would do it 'naturally' so that you wouldn't have to cope with drugs, etc.

Good Luck!

CFA uses NCIVF.

I said DF was ONE of the only clinics around that uses NCIVF. They are actually the ones that really pushed to implement it in the DC Metro area, and they took quite a beating by the other local clinics that railed against them for offering it.

I would go to the most experienced and best...CFA seems to do it as a fall back (a response to DF offering it)...rather than a true commitment.

We loved Dr. Durso! We went to her when she had a private practice in the INOVA Healthplex. I cannot speak to her success rate, because we are fertility treatment drop-outs, but I can absolutely praise the heck out of her professionalism and her amazing staff (Gail is the best). We stopped before IUI (for personal reasons), and although she encouraged us to maybe try a round of IUI, she was supportive of our decision to be done with TTC and never ever pressured us to do anything we didn't want to. I cannot say enough good things about her and her office.

We now have two kids - one we adopted, and one "surprise". We still send Christmas cards every year to their office, and give them complete credit for starting us on our family journey.
