if you eat all organic and whole food...

Where do you shop?

How much do you spend a month and for how many people?

Where are the best prices?

We don't do all organic and unprocessed/minimally processed or at least local, but we do as much as we can.

We shop at Whole Foods Market for most produce. Safeway and Giant also sometimes have good organic produce. We also shop at a local health food store.

During the summer and part of the Fall we go to farmer's markets when we can make it.

Refuse to admit how much we spend. It's not pretty.

Believe it or not WFM has the best prices for quite a few items and they have a lost of sales. They also get some great non-organic local or somewhat local items. I find Safeway expensive. I have a mental list of our favorite foods, which stores have which items for the best prices and which stores have sales on those items. We shop sales as often a s possible.

We are at about 95% at home, and we get most things through washingtonsgreengrocer or at farmers markets.

Farmers' markets and bulk purchases through farmers. Bulk sections at WF and Glut.

We shop at WF and spend about $500/month on three adults and a toddler.

Agree that Whole Foods has the best prices for organic whole foods (grains, produce, meat). At Safeway etc., they really charge a premium for it but WF has better prices as far as that line of food goes.

For what it's worth, we aren't perfect about it, but we eat primarily whole organic foods and try to eat as much from scratch as possible.

We have a CSA in the summer, we get meat and eggs from a local farm that delivers to DMV - both of these are cheaper than WF but our primary store is WF.

We spend $130 a week on groceries, with occasional restocking (every 2-3 months) weeks that fun about $210. This is for a family of 3.

Completely agree with the above PPs who shop at WH. The prices on the basic foods are pretty good, and quality is very good for the most part. If I don't buy meat/fish, I spend around 500 dollars a month. Meat/fish would add up another 100-150 a month for us. Family of 4, plus 2 grandparents visiting for 5 months. We don't go out much and mostly cook from scratch.

I do TJ's and WF, I'd say about 80% of what we eat is organic and unprocessed. $200-250/month for myself and a toddler including wine for me, a few impulse purchases and stocking up.

We eat a lot of dairy, beans, veggies, pasta, rice, eggs. I tend to make our bread, as we don't eat much (easy stuff like baguettes, I'm no gourmet cook/baker). My daughter eats meat 3-4 times a week, I eat it 2-3. A couple packs of TJ's organic chicken breasts (5 breasts each pack) last a month or more. Organic fish we eat once or twice a week, I buy 1-2 fillets, what we don't eat for dinner becomes tuna (or whatever) salad. Dessert is often just a piece of fruit or a fruit tart (again, easy recipe).

Your costs start to add up when you buy the processed stuff, anything that's boxed or bagged. I only pay maybe 10-15% more than I would at a Giant or similar because I buy on sale and in season, and almost nothing that's pre-boxed or bagged.

I am easing into being mostly vegetarian, so I anticipate that our costs will stay pretty much the same for a while.

Whole Foods and Wegman's.

Spend about $125/week, but I buy all of my meat in bulk once a year, so that is just produce and staples.

CSA and MOM.

Spend about $150-200 per week for family of three ($20 per week in CSA, rest at store). I overbuy and keep an overly full pantry, though.
