Which aftercare programs offer dinner?

They offer snack. The school will feed your child breakfast and lunch, and for extended day at least one snack.
Are you not okay with making one meal a day for your child? |

| OP here! Really, I'm more curious than anything! I've heard it mentioned here and there that some programs offer dinner. Ours currently does not. I don't think we'd ever take advantage of it, but I'm curious about the logistics and wanted to hear from some parents who participate. Is it just served really early? It seems like it would be disruptive to pick up your child in the middle of dinner. |

| In my DCPS, they call it a light supper. Usually it consists of a sandwich and some fruit or vegetable. They serve it shortly after school ends. |

I think that actually sounds great - my daughter is often ravenous at 5:30 when I pick her up, having eaten a pretty insubstantial snack around 4:00, and would love if her "snack" was a little more hearty and could hold her over until family dinner-time. I was wondering if this was what was meant by "dinner". |

| Yes, DCPS' afterschool care (now $10 for the full-tuition paying student) includes a light supper rather than a snack as in years past. My son hates it, too much brown bread and whole wheat tortillas. I've tried it and find it okay. It's definitely a stretch for many kids (hate to say it but just too nutritious, at least in the grains portion of it, the meat and cheese meanwhile has no taste, and they dare not add mayo) and at reasonably well fed schools really something of a waste. But I'm also glad they have it and have at times felt less guilty running a bit late with dinner. |

All Title I schools in DCPS offer public afterschool care, at this point really a great program. There are some perks that come with being a Titel I school. |

| Stokes does. I think its a great option. I believe you can take it home and its a guaranteed healthy meal. I would happily pay for that! |

A grilled cheese sandwich and a small cup of grapes is not dinner in my opinion. It's more like a snack and not dinner at stokes. |
