seriously stressed out - warts

Anonymous
During pregnancy I noticed a pimple on my elbow. I squeezed it, and another one emerged after I had DC. I also squeezed it, and it went away. A few months later I had another bump, and then two more. I finally saw a dermatologist who said that they are warts. I have never had warts before. Anyway she froze them, and they fell off - causing my arm to scar. I this was a month ago. Last night I noticed another small red bump on my elbow and I immediately put a compound W bandage on it. I am covering my elbow with clothing and immediately washing my towels in hot water after each use. I just have a fear that they will either spread to other parts of my body or to my children. I am currently nursing my 6 month old. I have avoided being intimate with DH because I am worried he will catch them. This ordeal has caused some depression and I am constantly on the verge of tears. Please feel free to tell me that I am being an idiot. Thank you.

You are not being an idiot, but your anxiety about this is way out of proportion to what is going on, which is a hallmark for a generalized anxiety disorder. I would consider seeing a psychiatrist.

Thank you. Yes, I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder in college - 16 years ago. I think not getting enough sleep has caused it to resurface.

Yeah, don't stress about this too much. They are contagious, but they aren't a big deal. (NOTE: I am not a doctor.)

Have everyone wash their hands, and go see the dermatologist and get yours burned off. And try to get some sleep!

Congrats on the new baby, too!

Sounds like it might be molluscum. Do a google search on it but take everything you read with a grain of salt. Yes, they are highly contagious (especially the liquid center of each of those bad boys) but they will go away on their own. If you want them to go away sooner, I suggest visiting a dermatologist for some retin-a and a regiment of creams. It sucks but they can be mitigated.

Yes, the sleep deprivation can be a huge factor. I suspected as soon as I saw that you are nursing a 6-month-old that this is likely the problem. Been there, done that with the post-partum anxiety.

Oh gosh, I've had them on and off- have some now, actually (but haven't gotten around to removing them). They are contagious but harmless. I don't worry about them.
