If your HHI is around 200K annually, where in MoCo do you live?

And where do you send your kids to school? What's your commute like?

I'm not sure what areas to look at for house hunting. We work in Rockville and Bethesda. Schools are important but can't afford private. Any suggestions?

Kensington Heights. Completely love our neighborhood. Love our elementary but may do private for middle and high school. Commute to downtown is between 30 minutes and an hour based on traffic.

Silver Spring. My commute downtown is a breeze, DH works nearby, we love the schools.

You might rephrase your question in terms of housing budget, because people with the same HHI can have different budgets, depending on what the downpayment is.

Four Corners, Silver Spring. I work at home, DH takes metro downtown -- about an hour door to door including drive to metro.

Kids go to MCPS schools.

We love our neighborhood and have been very happy with schools so far, although both kids attend magnets so not neccessarily representative.

Walter Johnson district would be good for your commutes and most likely affordable with your income (although I have no idea of your debt status, etc).

We are in North Chevy Chase and love the schools so far (Rosemary Hills and North Chevy Chase.)

(11:29 again)- the commute from Silver Spring to Rockville/Bethesda isn't great. Not bad, but can be up to or more than 30 minutes in rush hour.

In Rockville. Grade school is eh, but we are zoned for RM for high school. My kids are at the top of their classes, so grade school isn't a big deal.

OP here, good point. We figure out we'll be comfortable with $2500 mortgage payment. Thanks for the suggestions. I'm a little surprised at some of these neighborhoods because I considered them out of my price range. Maybe I'm going to need a lofty downpayment

Germantown - kids go to private - work in Rockville

We are in N. Bethesda, but we had a good downpayment and both DH and I made more than we do now when we bought. Houses in our area start about $600 and can be well over a million. We are on the lower end of that range, and still have heavy monthly payment. That said, our payment is for a 15 yr mortgage.

We are quite pleased with our local ES, and we'll continue to MS and HS here. We are in the WJ cluster.

May I ask what % your downpayment was?

Why do DCUM posters, like 11:33, continuous slip in bragging comments like "my kids are at the top of their class" when, honestly, it really has nothing to do with the question. I don't think people around here even realize how often they do it. Must be in the local culture.

Nice catch. Why would I care if their kid is "at the top of their class" as if that has anything to do with the question.
