Embarrassing problem with going to the salon

| l know this shouldn't be embarrassing but it is. I am under 40 but have a severe neck problem. I simply can no longer lay back to get my hair washed. anything pressing on my neck causes nerve pain and other symptoms neuropathy. I am not a surgical candidate - this is just the way it is. I have heard that some salons have a tray type of thing that allows you to sit up. Has anyone seen this in downtown DC, in a salon they recommend? I'm feeling pretty bad about it, I don't even want to call and ask the fancy places because I feel like they will think I'm a crazy. |

| I would just show up with wet hair and say that you have a neck problem and you can't lie back to get it washed. |

| A lady at my salon (in Rockville) had to have some special tray thing because of her neck. Don't be embarrassed, I'm sure they see it often, especially with older clientele. |

| That's not embarassing, OP. Embarassing is uncontrolable flatulence when someone touches your head, for instance. (FWIW, that's what I was hoping this post is about.) Just tell them you have a medical condition that won't let you recline, and ask what they suggest. |

| You can probably wash your hair the morning of the hair appointment and not put anything on it. When you get to the salon they can use the spray bottle to get your hair wet. This is a medical condition. Don't be embarrassed. |

Just ask. Call first and disguise your voice if it makes you feel better. |

| You shouldn't be embarassed OP. I would bet that many women have this issue. Just let them know when you call and then remind them. Sometimes, just using extra towels behind your neck will help. |

| I've been to (less fancy) places that just wet your hair beforehand with a little sprayer thingy, while you're already in the chair. So at the very least you should be able to go for a cut... |
