| Surprised DS, came home and said he is tired of studying all day??? |
| Yes. Very normal for K kids to complain about school. My 1st grader still does. It's a huge transition for them. She also specifically complains about having to "sit and learn all the time." They are used to playing all them time - now they are increasingly being asked to sit still and work on tasks. (My dd's first grade teacher says they actually still transition from one thing to another after only 10-15 b/c they can't sit still for longer than that, but apparently to them it still feels like a long time!) |

My son doesn't complain about the length of day but he is extremely tired and often cranky at home in the evenings. Even though he was in full time day care for years before this. There's just something about the structure of the day that's tiring.
FWIW, my son is just now, at the end of November, getting more acclimated to the schedule. We have more good days than bad now. |

My k'er is still struggling..goes to all day kinder that is immersion.
I hoped it would be better after Thanksgiving but still not that much better. So we are talking about what exactly it is that bothers DC. This week I was told it was that DC didn't like to sign in class that is in Spanish. My advice: Don't sing...just mouth words. I said to DC that it would make DC laugh on inside and teacher wouldn't be upset. |
| We're not seeing issues other than tiredness. So far DC is loving what he's learning. Small, progressive, private school. |
| No never but he attended preK at the same school, all day and preK was only in the target language. At least in k, they have English every other day. |
| No complaints from my k-first grader. He attended Prek all day, so this year is not such an adjustment, except for there is no rest period! |
| We had complaints about immersion the first year, but they are gone in the second. |

Ah, yes we have heard endless complaints about school. Boring. Hate sitting all day. Don't get to go outside enough. etc. etc. BUT ds had to stay home because of illness last week. After one day home, he starting complaining about missing friends. being bored. missing out. So I think Kindergarteners are just a bunch of whiners!!
(on the plus side, they will be able to whine in more than one language now.) |
