I am planning to deliver at Washington Hospital Center but haven't done their tour yet. Does anyone know (1) if they have private rooms for post partum and (2) if they have jacuzzi tubs in the L&D suites? Also I'd love to hear of any recent experiences delivering at WHC. Thanks in advance! |
Our tour is coming up but they do have private rooms and they do not have tubs - my first few questions!
That said, our experience there (prenatal and triage when we flipped out) have been great and we're looking forward to the tour this weekend. Good luck! |
Not the OP, but curious - are ALL the post partum rooms private or only some? E.g. are you guaranteed a private room or not? I got lucky at Sibley and got a private PP room - can't imagine having to share one - what a bummer that would be! |
10:54 -- please post after your tour! |
I am not sure if it would depend upon your insurance? I delivered at WHC and did get a private room (but that was 10 years ago!) post partum. My friend got the same private room 6 months later. I never asked who gets private and who gets semi private.

We did the tour this weekend - L&D rooms very nice and spacious, all are private. Don't have baths but have nice showers that are big enough to take in a ball, etc if you like.
The postpartum rooms are almost all private but are pretty small and sparse. I think 6 are semi private and if you get put in one, you can request a private post partum room as soon as its available. they fill up the private rooms first so it's not a matter of who gets what room - if there is a private room you get it, if not, you can let them know you'd like one when it becomes available. i found the tour to be helfpul but also a bit scary - my midwife is so laidback, it was kind of jarring to get thrown into the "systemness" of a hospital. if you are going to have a midwife at WHC, especially if its the one I have, there are hopsital policies and her policies - somethings she has to go with the hospital but she has a lot of leeway so trust your provider! best of luck to you!! |
OP here -- thanks so much for posting your tour impressions, it's very helpful! |
I am also seeing a midwife who delivers at WHC. She told me that I need to register with the hospital. How do I do this? I don't think it's through their OB practice because she works separately from them. |
