How are MCPS high school GPAs calculated?

Parent of a freshman. So would the first quarter and the second quarter grades be averaged to come up with the semester grade on the transcript? i.e. 88 percent first quarter and 92 percent second quarter would be 90 percent and thus an A? How is the final figured in? Thanks.

First quarter, second quarter, and final exam are averaged to get the semester grade. I think the final is 25% of the semester grade.

From what i've seen:

If you get As in both quarters you can get an A, B or C on the final and get an A

An A and a B in the quarters, an A on the final will be an A, a B on the final will be a B.

B in both quarters, you will get a B even with an A on the final.

Basic rule of thumb is 2 out of 3 will determine the grade.

2 out of three, but it follows the trend, too.

I'm the OP. This is so strange! The table itself is mind boggling.

It is a little strange. The percentages don't seem to matter - it's about the grade they represent. So a 100 one quarter and an 89 the next will be an A and a B, and require an A on the final to get an A in the class. The 100 and 89 don't average to be a 94.5. My DC got an A in a class where he got a B (maybe an 85%) the first quarter, and A - via a 89.6% - the second quarter, and managed to eke out an A on the final.
