Anyone live in PG County?

Anonymous
Hi All,

We are about to move to a great neighborhood in PG County(Cheverly) and have kids that willl soon be school aged. I know nothing specific about the public school system other than PG County schools are horrible. We really love Cheverly but am not sure we can swing private for all our kids. Anyone have any experience?

Thanks,

All the kids I know in Cheverly go to Catholic schools - St Jerome's, St Anselm's Abbey. None of the parents are wealthy, but they make it work. They all love their neighborhood.

I was going to say the same, St. Jerome's PK-8 http://www.stjeromes.org/stjeromeschool.htm and St. Anselm's Abbey MS-HS boys http://www.saintanselms.org/ or Dematha HS boys http://www.dematha.org/. There are no good local options that I am aware of for HS girls. At St. Jerome's last year non-Catholic tuition was about $8,500 for one, 10k for two, and 12k for three children. I think that it is changing for next year. The HS are significantly more expensive, but if you have a very high achieving boy, SAAS gives financial aid. GL and welcome!

Elizabeth Seton for girls HS and St.Ambrose for K through 8.

several friends are happy in magnet programs (french immersion, montessori, arts). Take a look and at least enter the lottery. Also take a look at your particular public...they vary wildly and I don't know anything good or bad about yours, except one cheverly family who seem pleased with public. Middle school is a more of an issue it seems like, that's county-wide.

We're at friends community school and there are several cheverly families there, it's 15kish, k-8.

I live in Cheverly and my kid walks to school every day to St. Ambrose. There is an open house this Sunday if you are interested in checking it out. As someone else mentioned, the public elementary is decent.

If you like the Montessori method, St. Jerome Academy is starting a Children's House with toddler (18 months - 3) and preschool (3-6) programs next year. There is a new website up at http://sjamontessori.org .
