Charlottesville restaurant for a group?

Anonymous
Friends and families would like to meet up at a neutral location for dinner; 20 people, ages 6-60. It would be during winter break, so there won't be the usual UVA crowd. Any recommendations? Thanks.

I'd try tripavisor.com.

What type of food? Ambiance? Entree price? Do folks need access to cabs, public transportation?

Everyone will drive. Ideally American food that will have something for everyone. Looking for something a step or two down from a white tablecloth restaurant. Price not terribly important.

Let us know if you would consider Chinese. There is a fabulous one (Peter Chang's? I think that's the name) in the Barrack's Road shopping center. Real, true Chinese food. It's on Yelp. Has a fabulous reputation and following. Wasn't busy last time I was there between lunch and dinner crowd.

Haven't been to a Chinese restaurant in years. This sounds great. Thanks!

Love Peter Chang! Didn't realize he had landed in Charlottesville.

Seriously? I LOOOOVE Maya! My DH and I go to Charlottesville every winter for a little kid-free vacation and we make a point of having dinner at Maya. Love, love, love it. We're going to be there in a few weeks and I'm already drooling thinking of it. Tell your friend he/she has a big fan here.

Duner's is an old stand by. The Wiskey Jar if you live Southern Food. Maya IS good- not the previous poster.

Love not live

Duner's is great but it would be hard to fit a group of 20 unless you went at a really off hour. They don't take reservations and you wouldn't want to wait in line for as long as it would take to get table space for 20.

I haven't been to Miller's in a million years but I bet they could do a group that size easily.

Not Miller's, it's had some issues and would not be good for older relatives.

Good to know.

to 22:37 Yes, THAT Peter Chang. Destination restaurant. Be careful, though, he used to be at another Charlottesville restaurant. He is at the Barrack's Road shopping center now (and owns a couple other restaurants). http://www.yelp.com/biz/peter-changs-china-grill-charlottesville#query:peter%20change. It was the first time I've found real authentic good chinese food since I toured China decades ago Get the fried eggplant. It's as good as all the reviewers says. Soups are fabulous. Dumplings. And go on an off-hour so you aren't rushed and have the restaurant to yourself.
