I'm having trouble with a second pregnancy.
I have a wonderful 1.5 year old son who I conceived when not really trying. I don't know how long it took because I don't remember when I went off birth control since we weren't actively TTC, but I definitely wasn't off birth control for more than a few months. I've been TTC my second but have gotten the dreaded minus sign two months in a row now. The first month we probably didn't have sex enough, but the second month we had sex daily during the two week window that could have possibly been my ovulation. Should I be worried, or is this normal? (My husband has had some health stuff since the first pregnancy that probably didn't impact fertility but that might have, so I'm a little paranoid I guess.) I'm 30, so I doubt it's an advanced maternal age thing, but maybe? |
Are you still nursing? |
Nope. |
You've been trying for 2 months. TWO months! This is totally normal. Most doctors won't even talk to unless you've been trying for 12 months. It took my brother and SIL 6, 7 and 9 months of trying (in their 20s and early 30s) to conceive their 3 kids.

Relax, OP. This is nothing... |
OP I think you need to relax as well. You have not been trying too long. It took me 10 cycles to conceive my first and I was in my early 20s and a newlywed! ![]() |
I know it's frustrating when it doesn't happen when you want it to, but agree you need to give it time. I'm pregnant with #2 and it took a full year to get pregnant. This was with tracking ovulation, using predictor kits etc.
sometimes it just takes awhile. |
Yeah, OP, prepare to be flamed. I asked the same question a while back and it ended up ugly. Like you, it happened almost instantly the first time. This time, not so much. Still trying. My child is 3.5 and we started trying again 4 months ago. Hang in there. It is frustrating as hell to have to keep waiting when you are ready, isn't it? |
i'm 32. Most of my friends conceived their second around age thirty about 1/2 from maybe 15 friends took 6months-2 years to conceive. I took 1 year and first pregnancy took 1 cycle at 27.
I think the big 30 can impact fertility a lot. Most of my girlfriedns took a wihle to conceive their second and no time for their first. I personally think you're fine. Esp. since I've heard fertility is highest in the first 2 yrs after giving birth. Good luck. |
You're fine OP. Average for your age is about 6 months of trying but could take longer. I'm late 20s and have been trying for a year and a half... |
OP here. Thanks for this. Fingers crossed that you don't have to wait too much longer! |
I think there's only something like a 30 or 30% change you'll become pregnant if you have sex during ovulation. This is for a healthy fertile person, and doesn't even consider chemical pregnancies.
If that's right, you're still well within the normal range of chance. No worries. Wait a few more cycles to feel alarmed. |
Thanks. You too! |
