i live in bethesda, just off the crescent trail. today, while driving on little falls parkway, i noticed a blue tent set up just down from the trail - from where i was, i could tell that it could not be seen from the trail. it was not behind any houses/apartment buildings, but near the abandoned factory (that is soon to turn into townhouses).
this was within 1 mile of where the sexual assault took place on the trail last month. should i report it to 311? |
| I would report it. It may be someone with malicious intent, someone with the construction company, or it may be someone homeless who is entitled to services. |
| Go for it. I live very near there too. |
| Yeah, report it. It is also coming up on hypothermia temps and the homeless are exposed when living out in the elements. |
| yes. call, and reports the facts you witnessed. |
|
i called and told them. the responder said "we'll make sure someone knows about the tent."
i was initially telling myself it was just teens camping out, but its too cold for that. and it just looked hidden among the trees... |
| Definitely call |
| Go head, but it is probably some unfortunate homeless person. |
| Yikes. I run on the CCT. Thanks for reporting. |
| There is a blue tent that popped up off the Mount Vernon trail near National Airport a couple weeks ago. It seems to be a homeless person based on the stuff nearby. I just ignore it. |
| Don't call 311. The police non emergency number is (301) 279-8000. |
Yes. They have to be somewhere, you know? |
As someone posted above, its nearing hypothermia temperatures and it may not be safe for ANYONE to be sleeping outside tonight, and the police can offer services in that case. |
Yes, wouldn't that be wonderful if the authorities could round up ALL the indigent and homeless people in the DC area and offer them warm, comfortable beds and hot meals for the rest of the winter?
|
| I say report it-particularly if there was an assault in that area recently. Always better to be safe then sorry. |
