I know Wallace Loh said that they would try to negotiate with the ACC, but what motivation would the ACC have to reduce it? If they make a deal for UMD to leave for less, won't that just encourage Florida State to leave for the SEC? Even with the increased TV revenue, it seems like it would take years for UMD to get the $50M. Or are they just going to ask the boosters to pony up?
Kevin plank cashing in some stock to help pay the fee.
by canceling programs that are meaningful to those of us who don't give a crap about football.
UMD had a salary freeze for their employees for 3 years bc of budget problems, it's nice to know they have their priorities straight.
This is what I heard. All big 10 schools share research and grant funding. Maryland will get hundreds of million of dollars for research/grants and all that goes with it. In addition, the big 10 football network makes cash and it is divided between members about 7 million in additional cash, plus bowls. This contract will be up in I think 2 years and should increase a lot. Last Maryland will have to add sports to play in the big 10.
14:22 nailed it. Kevin Plank will encourage the school to negotiate a lower exit fee, and, he may pony up an amount to calm people bitching about it.
