are World Bank families at an advantage?

Just curious, do you think schools like World Bank families (who fit the criteria for tuition reimbursement) more than other applicant families because tuition is a given, they instantly add an international flair to the parent body, and they are more likely to donate to annual giving since they save on all that tuition?

I wonder if these hard economic times schools will be fighting for these families more than before. Could you imagine if the World Bank pulled this benefit. That would make this admission season interesting.

No one wants to be loaded up with any "kind" of family.

Americans don't get tuition reimbursement, and most internationals don't get it anymore (no longer offered). Don't think those who do give any more to annual giving drives.

Long story short. No.

No. As PP points out, the benefit has already been eliminated (although not for those grandfathered).

Also, I think a counterargument from the school's perspective is that parents who do not have to come up with the funds themselves or fight their way through the financial aid process are sometimes less emotionally committed to the school. I've seen this among many of the IMF families we know (who still get the benefit).

"Also, lawyers, World Bank/IMF, and lobbying-related folks are a dime a dozen. Most schools love authors, artists, journalists, entrepreneurs, etc."

Do the school expect you to "marry the school"?
I would think they are eager to anyone willing to pay their way. Regardless of the way they get the funds.

Most world bank families are not here permanently. So the kid will leave in about 2 or 5 years

DC has TONS of poeple who can pay private school tuition without a second thought. There are lots of lawyers, lobbyists, and other high earners for whom it isn't even an issue. At my kids' school, there is one family with FOUR children attending (at 30K each) and they pay the full ride. And the mom doesn't work.

Ummm, probably because the working parent earns 800k plus yearly.

Maybe it was a dumb question but did not realize these employees made this much yearly. Just a lowly educator on the bottom of the totem pole.

I don't think the poster meant that World Bank families earn that much (they do not), but certainly many other professionals in DC are north of 800k, which is more than enough to be able to afford 4 tuitions.

Most people making 800K per year do not have 4 children. Most of them have only 1 child.

A club of overindulged pampered kids whose parents think the sun shines from their bottoms

Certainly, if people earn very high incomes, they must be self-absorbed, selfish, out of touch with reality, and snobbish. Or maybe they are simply people doing well in high paying professions, who run the range of personalities, priorities and egos just like everyone else. Stereotype much?

Do you know people like that?
Tell me, why do I feel they are focused on impressing people. Why do I feel they have already brushed me aside as a person not worthy of being greeted? Why do I have to hear constantly that compared to mine their kid is sooo great.
Why is their talk concentrated so much about themselves. Why do they make sure that they can mention their status or wealth any chance they get.

Do you really believe they are saints?
I had one ask me how much my house was worth. At a client meeting he told them how his property was very valuable, he mentions his fathers profession often. He even tells that his dad also owned the business premises.

I don't understand why I should care.
