Recommendations sought for fertility monitors

Anonymous
Hello all. Trying to conceive baby #2, but not much luck. Baby #1 is now 2y9m. I had a misscarrige a year and 3 months ago. Two months ago tried IUI protocol. Last month we did not do the IUI (opted for the old fashioned way), but did do the meds (clomid, injectibles, etc.) and again, no luck. I would be willing to do IUI again and even consider IVF but insurance does not cover it. And since we are already blessed with a son, I don't feel the need to incur financial debt in order to try and get pregnant. I've used ovulation sticks every month (except the last two when I was doing the doctor monitored rounds) but I've never trusted that I was accurately predicting my ovulation with those sticks. All this intro stuff to ask a simple question...

I see all these fertility monitors on the market now, including that interesting OV Watch. Does anyone have any recommendations for which fertility monitor to purchase? Any down sides? I'd like to leave the ovulation sticks behind.

Thanks for reading.

are you doing the OPKs every day? are you charting?

I've gotten pregnant three times (carried one to term) and did it always per the BBT -- honestly, anyone having trouble conceiving, can't imagine NOT charting... TTC #2 now and charting again -- it's helpful to me (and the docs should medical intervention be required).

Clearblue easy. I conceived 4 times with it.

How old are you OP?

I like Clearblue Easy digital OPK. It worked very well for me in predicting ovulation and the result is very easy to read: you get a happy face when you ovulate. The other OPKs that show 2 lines (one has to be darker than the other one for the result to be positive) are very hard to read: you have to play the guessing game: is the line darker or not than the other one??? I don't know much about the OV Watch but I have heard that it only works for those who have a 28-day cycle.

Okay - I just bought the ClearBlue Easy Fertility Monitor - I am especially looking forward to using it because I'm so irregular. However, I'm not understanding how exactly this thing works. I know it tells me when to test, but if my cycles are so irregular, how does it know if I am supposed to use 10 sticks or 20? Is anyone able to clue me in to how this works?

The first cycle you use it you will likely use 20 as it is "learning" your cycle. I think you start peeing on the sticks on day 6 and keep going past your peak day. If you're super irregular, you may end up using 20 every cycle. I would call the 800 number and ask how it works.

Are you charting? Before my son was born, I had really irregular and often long (40+ days) cycles. Using the info found in "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" was VERY helpful for me, as it let me know much more specifically when I was ovulating. My son was conceived on cycle day 26!
