Are high property taxes a deal breaker?

We are looking at a house in 20878. Love the house, but the taxes seem VERY high. Should that be a deal breaker?

Presumably you're looking in a set price range, so the taxes are what they are. Only way they would vary appreciably might be MD vs VA or something.

This isn't true ... at least not in DC. Property taxes vary wildly here for houses in the same price range.

Taxes are the price we pay for civilization.

Is this in Montgomery County? If the house is owner occupied, you are eligible for a discount on your taxes - Homestead Exemption. Is the tax rate you were quoted for the house based on a non-owner occupied property?
