| Hello there. I am looking for anyone that can give me some insight into liposuction in dc. If you had it, did it work? How much did it cost? Recovery time? Did it hurt? Doctor recommendations? Thank you in advance! |

I had it about 10 years ago, but not in DC. I think it was about $3000. It hurt to walk for days afterward. I was walking like an old woman and refused to tell people why of course! You wear a hip to calf girdle for weeks afterward, and you LOVE it b/c it helps with the pain and swelling.
After the pain and swelling go away, it is wonderful! I had my inner and outer thighs done. Now at 40, I can stand with my knees pressed together and no where on my thighs do they touch, still after 10 years! The downside is the fat you gain in the future will go to your second problems area, so in my case my sides and lower back waist area. Still, it's not bad and I would recommend it to anyone who cannot get a problem area under control through diet or exercise. I had saddlebags at age 18 and 117 lbs. So it was lipo or live with it, and I chose lipo! |
Thank you for taking the time to reply! |
| I had it done 10 years ago- I do have to say (this is pre family and kids) that it took 3 times to have it work- I';m sure it's better now.. but- WOW- super worth it- I don't have those saddle bags- when I was skinny (size 2) I always had these huge bulks out- now I am a 6 (baby fat) but am proportional.. the surgery was the best surgery (vanity wise) I think ever for me.. |

I've heard from people that the fat does return to the liposuctioned area. But it sounds like from the previous posters that that is not the case. If your weight remains stable, do the effects of liposuction last?
I'm serious considering it for my inner thighs which have been resistent to diet/exercise my entire life. |

It may vary by person whether it comes back. I was thin to start with, just had saddlebags on my outer thighs and decided to lipo the inner thigh just for grins. (hey, it didn't cost any extra, what would YOU have said?!)
My weight then was around 128 and my weight 10 years and 4 pregnancies later is around 132. So for me, I didn't gain anywhere else (to speak of.. though I carry my water weight in my lovehandles 1 week out of four) so it never returned in my thighs. Now my aunt on the other hand, was overweight when she had lipo done 15 years ago. She had great results for about 18 months, and then proceeded to gain it all back. It was worse in the non-lipo'd areas (her tummy and arms and butt) but she got big legs all over again too. I think this is why they say lipo isn't really for the overweight as much as those fighting a problem area that is resistant to diet, weight or exercise. If you're thin and have an area lipo'd, and continue to eat/exercise at the same level as always, you should expect that improvement to be permanent. IMHO. |
| have you ever seen a video of how they do it? it's an imprecise art. i'd make sure to find a really good reputable person to do it if you're sure this is what you want. |
| I'm one of the PP's - I said it took me 3 times- one dr was just lousy and had it done twice- then i found a really good one and it's been pretty permanent- I don't have saddle bags- and I did before- they stuck out either at size 2 or size 6- .. i think it's gotten better now and id definately go for recommendations.. |

I'm also one of the OP's and it took a followup office visit to fix a spot on my leg that he missed the first time. I don't know if that's common but it may be.
Definitely try to get recommendations from friends, your GYN or FP, and see their before/after books. |
| Oops, one of the PP's... |
| any local doctors in chevy chase or dc that you would recommend? how much does it cost to get done on saddlebag area? i have an injury and can't exercise anymore. i already have bad saddlebags even though i exercise all of the time. i am worried that they will get even worse b/c i just stopped exercising. thank you! |
