Math "extension" group under 2.0?

Anonymous
At my child's parent teacher conference yesterday, the teacher mentioned that they are starting a pullout math "extension" group for those needing more math enrichment. He's in third grade. Is this MCPS wide? Anyone know more about it? The only info we got is that a math specialist (not the classroom teacher) will pull out this group, but it sounds like it isn't very often (once a week) and I'm not sure if it's for the whole math period.

My 2nd grader is in a math pull-out--the teacher said 4 days a week. (Past years we've seen pull-outs fewer days a week, so I think it varies by school and staffing.) Don't know too much about the content, but glad that they've recognized that he can handle some harder stuff.

So is this different than acceleration? Are they still doing on grade level work but extended?

What school do they have pull outs 4 times a week?

My first grader is in accelerated math but it is being done in class (the teacher pulls out the group), and only two days a week.

Our second grader is doing what the teacher described as "3rd grade math" in a pull out section with her or another 2nd grade teacher weekly. So they are accelerating kids - she started out trying to be really careful how she worded it but eventually just came out and said it "your child is doing above grade math at the 3rd grade level and we are enhancing that with inclass instruction."

Kudos goes to those teachers who care for kids.

Could you please let us know which school has the math extension? Thinking of moving my home.

Flora Singer ES is providing math extension for third graders. I'm not sure about other grades.

How is this different from differentiation? Is it above grade level work or just that he or she is in the highest math group?

Thank you! One more question. Does it mean that kids in the extension class are grouped from classes in the same grade?

I actually don't know but that would make sense. I know that it's more than a couple of kids and that they meet with a math specialist.
