| This prob won't get a balanced response, since if your on DCUM, you're prob not too averse too the concept, but have you encountered these parents who scornfully tell you they just don't "do" email? This is in the context of a person who has volunteered to lead a parent-school group for approx. 30 kids. A lot of info will have to be exchanged during the school year. I'm finding it to be ...irksome. |
| How annoying. |
| i agree. |
| I agree it is annoying. It is fine not to do email, but not if you have to correspond with 30 parents. For her own sake, email would save her so much time! 30 phone calls/letters, etc vs. 1 mass email???? No question email is easier. |
| Maybe she can't type. |
| I don't communicate with those people much, since I don't really "do" telephone. |
| Tell her to get into the 21st century! Totally annoying and someone who should never be allowed to head/chair any committee without getting 'with the times'. |
Ha! I'm with you. The only person I speak with on the phone is my mom, and that's usually on my way home from work (don't jump on me-- I commute with DH, and he drives)! |
| I'd push back a bit. I think it's ridiculous not to "do" email nowadays. It's one of the biggest time-savers out there and pretty indispensible for a huge percentage of people, but especially for time-pressed working parents. |
| john mccain does not do email- and he wants to run the country! |
John McCain does not "do" email because he can't type due to the injuries he sustained as a POW in Vietnam. Not quite a fair comparison. |
| Actually in the new web 2.0 world, it is expected that the use of email will decline as people join more communties and use more Wikis. For instance, I was organizing a team dinner for 40 people where I had to coordinate what size shoes and shirts for bowling. I set up a table in a wiki software with everyone's names and then sent everyone the URL (we'll always need email) and then everyone self published the info. we needed. I didn't have to wade through 45 emails and actually got all the info I needed in less than a day. With social networking and web collaboration, email should decline a bit. But don't tell this lady seems she's missed out on Web 1.0! |
What wiki software? I love the idea of what you did. I'd like to find out more. Thanks! |
| i hate the phone...I only use it when I have to. |

As an introvert, I LOVE email. Hate the phone. When I used to have to do info-gathering phone calls for work I would break out in a sweat.
Even my 80-something grandmother uses email. |
