What's your Christmas budget per kid?

Last year we spent about 1200 on our 6 year old and about 800 on our 1 year old. Obviously she will get more this year but she was just a newborn baby then so there wasn't a whole lot to buy her except clothes, stuffed animals, and a few toys for her to grow in to.

We never really set a budget. We just buy what we think is good and stop when we feel like we have enough.

So what about you?

Holy shit. $1200? What on earth are you buying? I don't spend $1200 TOTAL.

Wow, that's crazy in less you have tons of extra money. Under $100 and rest goes into college fund. Kids only need so much stuff.

$200

To answer this question, it's probably also valuable to mention your HHI. $800 on a 1yr old says to me that you have a HHI north of $500K minimum. VERY different from someone making half or a quarter or even less than that.

Our HHI is about $250. No set amount, it tends to vary based on needs and ability in a given year. On average, I'd say $200-300/child. DCs still young and don't need much so honestly, DH and I still spend more on each other. I.e. an iPad or similar.

Kids are 2.5 and 6mos. They don't need anything since I'm done buying clothes for the season and the 2yo still has toys from the birthday that are not opened yet so we're goin to the store to pick a gift for the 6mo old. $35 maybe?

On Xmas we we exchange gifts. We don't do Santa. She will also help me pick a gift for dad, grandma and her cousins in our home country.

That's ridiculous.

Maybe $100. One largeish thing she's been wanting-- this year it's a $60 LEGO kit-- and a handful of smaller things, like some furniture for her dollhouse, a board game, and some stocking stuffers.

She gets another $100 worth of stuff from family, rough estimate.

No complaints yet!

About $500 per child.

Our budget for all Christmas (gifts for everyone, cards, tree, etc) is $1,000. So less than you spent on just one kid last year. The amount on each kid varies, generally one "big" gift in the $75 range and a great stocking full of stuff.

+1

We speind about $200- $250 per kid. Two boys, and they are not allowed to ask for more than 5 things from Santa - they are 7 1/2 and from their questions Santa is probably not going to be around next year as they have constantly been asking if he's real.

$50 per child. One big gift ($40ish) + a couple small things. A bit of flexibility. We don't do the Santa thing.

$450 - $500 total for 3 kids. They get a one good gift from us, one joint gift from their siblings and a few presents from santa, plus stocking. Stockings always include practical (bulky) items like mittens and/or socks, and a toothbrush and toothpaste.

we'll spend about $300 each for our 6 year old twins and about $150 for our 3 year old.

They get next to nothing from anyone but us (grandparents, etc don't give gifts) so we spend a bit more.

That's a ridiculous amount of money. Especially for those ages.

We try to aim for around 100ish. Typically one bigger gift and a few smaller gifts plus a stocking. We save large gifts (ie: toy kitchen, basketball hoop, bike) for their birthdays.

That's plenty. They get a couple gifts from their grandparents and some gifts from aunts/uncles. They don't need that much stuff (and neither do we).
