Infertility Support and Discussion

I read that the percentage of women who miscarry before they have even missed their period is close to 50%. As someone who has been TTC for awhile (and never tested positive), I wonder when is too early to test. I guess there is no right or wrong answer and everyone is different BUT I wondered what you all think. Do you test before you are even supposed to get your period or do you wait a few days after???

| I WOULD WAIT UNTIL 14DPO |
| i am really regular and always do the tests two days before i am supposed to get my period. i can't help it!!! once i was pregnant and miscarried at 5 weeks and the rest, not. i guess i just have no self control....! |

Last month I tested at 9DPO and got a positive, then a negative the next day. It was a very, very early chemical pregnancy. I would have been better off not knowing about it. So this month I'll wait to test at 12DPO (two days before my period is due), which is when my RE says its safe to test.
Good luck! It's hard to wait. |
| if you're doing injectibles with an HCG trigger shot -- will that show a positive test (because of the hcg trigger) 12 dpo even if you are not in fact pregnant? |
| PP here - -I did injectibles with trigger (10,000 ml). My doc said that it's highly unlikely I was detecting the trigger at 9DPO - that it would have been out of my system by then. Also, I had a beta (blood test) at 11DPO, which was something like 3.7. Doc said it's typical of a chemical pregnancy for the pregnancy hormone to fall quickly. The trigger shot leaves the system much more slowly. |
| I highly recommend testing on the day your period is due. Most pregnancy tests won't be able to detect pregnancy before that day anyway. I know it's hard to wait that long, but think about it: you don't need to waste money on a pregnancy test and ruin your mood by testing before your period is due and getting a negative. My point is if you are not pregnant you will know soon enough because your period will come so there is no need to do a test. In my experience, it is easier emotionally to find out that you are not pregnant by seeing your period come rather than by having to see a negative result on a pregnancy test. If you are indeed pregnant you don't really gain anything by finding out a few days earlier. Most doctors won't see you that early anyway. From ovulation to your period, you only have to wait for about 2 weeks, in the end it's really not that long! |

For what it's worth, I got a three faint positives (one at the dr. office) all before AF was due. I was just so darn anxious to find out... and subsequently got my period a few days late.
I have learned my lesson about the mixed blessings of early detection. |

After having several m/c, I knew when I was or was not pregnant and would test on day 10. When I got pregnant with my one and only, I tested on day 10 and got a dark line almost immediately.
I've had a couple of chemical pregnancies but my period was always a couple of days late when they occured. |
