My 18 year old niece is very small and has a very light period. The first day it's light spotting, 2nd day is a normal flow, and the 3rd day is close to nothing. That's it. Once a month, just 3 days of her period.
She is worried that because of her light periods it will be difficult for her to have children in the future. It may sound like a silly thought but I've never thought about it to be honest so I don't have a yes or no answer for her. What do you think? |
Sounds like a question for her gyn. And 18 is super young to have such concerns! |
My periods are short, and I have two babies! |
Yes that is a question for a GYN not for a TTC board. |
Really no correlation at all. My periods were that light at that age as well. Her hormones and periods will change through her 20s and 30s. And if she is worrying about having a baby at 18, she has bigger problems than infertility. |
A friend went through early menopause in her mid twenties. Get UT checked out. |
That was nasty. The OP didn't say she wanted to have the baby at 18. Lots of women know they want to be mothers from a young age. There is nothing wrong with that. |
Seriously, did OP say her 18 year old cousin was trying to conceive? When I was 18, I didn't want kids for a looooong time, but I remember worrying that my small boobs would mean I couldn't breastfeed (turned out they could). It's normal to worry about your future. |
Could your 18 year old niece be on the pill? Some pills (like Generess Fe) really shorten and lighten them. My 17 year old daughter had really heavy periods so I took her to my gyn for help; She's now been on the pill for 9 months. Big change - periods are regular, short and light and extra bonus was that her skin cleared up |
I've always had a two-day period and got pregnant my 2nd month trying (was seeing an RE for IUIs because I'm a lesbian). But, I agree with pp that if it's something that is worrying her, she should talk to her gyn. |
I was teeny as a teen and had and still do have very regular but light periods, three days tops each month. I conceived the first month four times. I would suggest she not worry just yet about such things. I am not an ob, but I don't think length of bleeding is an issue. |
I have super short periods like this and have talked to a GYN and RE and it is not concerning to them in terms of TTC. |
I think you should save your bitchiness, because a woman thinking about her fertility at age 18 is much more biologically normal than a woman waking up at 34 for the first time and deciding all of a sudden that it is time to have kids. It works out for many in the latter group, but very often the latter can be a painful road to walk. |
Sounds like you are just about as bitchy as the person you are quoting. |
Sorry you took it that way. I find it interesting that you basically assume that I've had no trouble conceiving! Im just pointing out that there are certain biological realities for all of us women and that it is both smart and natural to think about these things sooner on in the game. I know I wish I had. There's nothing wrong with an 18 year old thinking about her fertility. It isn't like she is TTC, she just want to be assured that her body works okay. Don't we all want that when it comes to this issue? |
