Does anyone have any recommendations for a lightweight, easy to handle portable DVD player. I'm going on a cross country flight - 6 hours - with an infant, a toddler and myself. So I need something that I can easily manage among my 2 bags that I'll be bringing on the plane. Also, any ideas where to rent versus buy? Thanks! |
We have the Toshiba b/c we also use it at home and has a large screen. We had a Sony b/c it comes in cool colors and is very durable, but returned it b/c the screen was too small. Check out reviews at Slate.com, search DVDs. Very informative, even more so than Consumer Reports. |
You also want a remote and the ability to fast forward and reverse, particularly if you also use at home. Not all DVD players have these options.
As to the remote, don't you hate the videos with 5 minutes of commercials before the video starts, then you have to hit play. that is why you need a remote, though some DVDs now automatically start after the commericials but it takes some time. |
We got one that plays video either from an ipod or a dvd. I think they are probably cheap enough that they're not worth renting? |
I went thru 3 before finding the perfect one. It also happen to be the cheapest. Zenith, from best buy. About 100 bucks. Works like a charm, no skipping, which I found with even the high dollar Sony. Light, easy to use, even my 3 yr old can do it. Have fun on the trip. |
We bought the Panasonic DVD-LS82. It has the longest battery life that I could find (it says 12-13 hours but reviewers said it was more like 8-10, which is really good for a portable DVD player and plenty long for a long flight.) I got it on E-bay for $105. It is light enough that it isn't an inconvenience when flying solo with 2 toddlers, 2 adult backpacks, and 2 carseats! |
One issue we had with the sony one we bought...with the noise of the plane, even with the volume the highest it could go, it was not audible to my son. We bought headphones so that he could hear. |
