My neighbor has expressed concern about her dog walker possibly being crazy and I"m home sick so seen dog-walker in action.
She walks a medium sized dog (50 pounds) lab-ish looking thing, about 5 minutes. I've also seen another neighbor's dog walker take her 2 very small dogs on a rather lengthy walk (30 min). What's normal? Thanks! |

It depends on what you pay for. They usually tell you an amount of time, but if they are doing other things(feedinG the dog) that will take up time.
I know some services are dishonest and push Thierry walkers to shortchange the dog. 5 minutes seems way too short. |
| 5 minutes is WAY too short. Should definitely be a solid half hour, and then some. I walk a 17 lb cockapoo and just going for our regular walk is a half hour - if we go to the dog park to play with other dogs or play catch it's an hour. Then we go home and lay around together for an hour. So I spend a total of an hour and a half to two hours with her. |

Our dog walker averages about 20 mins, but frequently keeps the dogs out for longer walks. Occasionally, for example if the weather is bad, she only takes them out for about 15 minutes but that is rare.
We know the duration because she disarms/arms our alarm system and we have a security camera that emails us pictures when someone is on our front porch. Five minutes is way too short. |

OP: Thanks. Total visit today was 14 minutes. Car arrive to care drive away. I"m going to tell neighbor only b/c she talked to me about something and what I observed doesn't "fit".

Our dog walker does a 30 minute visit--which usually includes about a 20 minute walk. They also get him fresh water, a treat, rub his belly, write a note, etc which takes up the other 10 minutes. In very hot, very cold, or very rainy weather the visits are shorter--but that's ok with me because I know my dog doesn't want to be out for very long in those cases. On nice days, it often turns into a longer walk.
They do offer shorter visits, but those are aimed at puppies and very old dogs who basically just need a pee break and not a walk. |
| Ours do 20-30 min, but sometimes way longer. 14 min is ridiculous. |
Nowhere near long enough. Ours gets 30 minutes at lunchtime. |
| We pay for 30 minute walks. When the dogs were younger (under 4 years old) we paid for hour long walks. A dog that size needs a minimum of 60 minutes of exercise a day. |
