Worst dog breeds...tried it once but never again

What is your worst dog breed experience? Could also be your neighbors breed that became part of your life.
I'll go first. Doberman: We had a beautiful Doberman who weighed 108 lbs. He was a sweet and wonderful dog, but he was so smart it was like having a child. He was a problem with friends and neighbors, as he was opinionated and liked some people and disliked others. When he did not like you, he was scary. When he did like you, 108 lds of friendly Doberman, coming up to a person in a dog park was just awkward, to say the least. Sadly, he died young, but never again. Too much work, and too many side issues for suburban life.

Austrailian Cattle Dog. If I had some land sure, but in a regular sized yard no way! She is fiercely protective of her family and herds our little dogs constantly. It's kind of funny actually but you know she needs a job to do and doesn't have one

I disagree vehemently regarding Dobermans. Having had two growing up, we had very different experiences with both of them. Maybe all the PP needed was some training?

I think this is a pointless thread given that all breeds have some shared traits that may be better or worse for some families. And individual dogs have their own traits on top of the breed-specific ones. How can you villify one breed because you've had one dog you didn't like?

-Bichon frise. Very experienced dog owners/families all had house training issues as compared to their prior dogs [poodles].

LOVE dobermans. Had them growing up, they are amazing and truly smart (not just a pleaser, like most breeds).

Honestly, the best breed is a mutt, and NOT a designer hyphenated mutt that most people think they need. Ridiculous.

OP here: PP, thank you! This is just what I meant. Great dog, but kind of out of place.

I currently hate my Jack Russell Terrier. She will be 1 year old this week. She peed on the floor last night during the election. She runs through the house like an insane creature whenever she is out of her crate--She's out of her crate 6-8 hours a day. She gets an hour of flat out running and tussling with other dogs at the dog park every day. She never gives any warning that she needs to pee--she just pees. She is impossibly cute with a scruffy muzzle. I hate her but yeah, I am her slave.

+1

We had labs and golden retrievers growing up, who were (for the most part) great dogs, but suffered from problems common to their breeds (joint issues, high cancer incidences, overwhelming exuberance, overbred stupidity). I have a giant mutt now, and at 12 years old he is still running 4+ miles several times a week with no joint problems. He's smart, affectionate, calm indoors, and has the rescue-dog loyalty and devotion I'd previously rolled my eyes about. I know there are risks in getting a rescue, but if you take your time and find the right dog, I definitely think its the way to go.

She's precious. I have a Yorkie, and she was impossible to housebreak but eventually, she caught on.

Awww, so cute! We used to ride our horse in the mountains with Jack Russels. They literally ran circles around the horses. Very high energy dog.

Dachshund. Cute and adorable. Bladder problems. Pee everywhere.

Golden retrievers. I love them, but I'll never have one again without having a farm or a lot of acreage. They need space to run. They also suffer too much in hot weather. We lived in MN and our dog was so much happier in the cold and snow and lower summer temps than he was here.

Labrador retrievers - Labs - smelly coat, super drooly, stole food from kids hands and plates and ate like he was starving all the time. Nasty, nasty dog and there are wayyyyyy to many out there just like him. Yuck. Yes, I know so sweet ones but in general they really gross me out. Why are they such greedy pigs?

We had a beautiful husky. She was sweet, smart, and great with the kids. But she was by far the hardest dog to train I have ever had. She knew what to do. She was just so amazingly stubborn. She also had an insanely high prey drive. We loved her. But I would never have another.

We have two German Shepherds now. It's really hard to find anything to complain about with them. I agree with the earlier poster. It's hard to characterize dogs simply by breed. My Shepherds are great dogs. But they would be a disaster were they not properly trained and socialized.
