Help me style these pants

I have a pair of wool work pants, very fine houndstooth black and white pattern, mostly black. The pattern is so fine that it looks more like an abstract black and white pattern than houndstooth. I can't wear it with heels due to the hem length. What shoes would go best with it and what top?
I'm not sure what's the best way to incorporate these pants into an outfit so any ideas are welcome. TIA!

I have a similar pair of pants, but more white shows. I wear mine with a thin red sweater. Since your hem is an issue, I think your only option is a cute pair of flats.

I would wear them with a pair of loafers or driving mocs

and maybe a top with some texture like a sweater in a chunky knit or a cotton velvet blazer (J Crew sells them). I would definitely pair them with a strong color or a bold graphic print.
