Trying to lose 60 lbs in one year

Anonymous
Looking for success stories at my age: 43 in August

My starting weight was 188 at the beginning of September and I am trying to get to 128 by September 1, 2013. I am only 5'2", so started well into the obese BMI range and I am trying to get into the healthy range.

The Goals: 24lbs lost by December 1, 40 lbs lost by March 1, 52 lbs lost by June 1, and 60 lbs lost by September 1.

The Progress: 12 lbs lost in September and 4.5 lbs lost in October. So I am going to need at least 7.5 lbs in November to meet my first goal.

Anybody attempted/attempting/accomplished something similar?

I did do 60 pounds in 7 months -- getting down from 235 to 175, doing a low- carb method (I have PCOS, low carb works really well for us). This 175 seems to be my set point if I don't kill myself to get any lower.

I later dropped 40 more pounds with extreme effort (low carb + very low calorie intake + lots of exercise). I'm tall and heavy-boned, so at 135 I'm a size 2 or 0.

Now that I've had kids and I don't have the energy to do the very low calorie + lots of exercise, I'm back up around that 175 mark. It is what it is. One of these days I'll go back into freak mode and lose it again.

I am 36, but I have lost 85 pounds since last November (will be one year next Friday) and I did through Weight Watchers (kind of - I know the plan and use it a little, but also just watch what I eat) and intense exercise. I am 8 pounds away from my goal weight and couldn't be happier!

P90X in combination with Shakeology (also a Beachbody Program). P90X is a 90 day program. You can either repeat the program at the end of 90 days, or move on to Insanity. Follow the program and you will lose weight and more importantly, get healthy.

You can do it! I am 5'7" and lost 30 lbs. (170 to 140) in about 5 months using weight watchers and Jillian Michaels videos.

Oh, I forgot to mention I am 42.

I would go the Weight Watchers route. Most of the recent studies on weight loss are showing that intense exercise actually slows weight loss down. And WW usually comes out on top of the studies that compare plans.

This is so inspiring! I'm 5'7" and 168lbs. And 45 yrs old. I've be doing WW on and off, but I just haven't pushed myself enough to go below 162lbs. I can do the exercise; it's the tracking where I falloff the rails. Reading this is a great help!

In the midst of this right now. 38 and gained 70+ during my last pregnancy. I've lost 40lbs since July, and I need to lose 30 more. It's tough once you hit the plateau and the weight stops coming off.

I've lost 27 since June. Aiming for about 5 lbs a month, although was down 7 in October. I am not sure what my end point is. At least another 12-13. I cut portions dramatically, cut white carbs, cut snacking. Active, and do some toning exercise every day, but not a real exercise program. I tried to set smaller goals. I think if I'd set out to lose 40 lbs it would have seemed too overwhelming. So I've been thinking more in 10-15 lb increments. Good luck. I have tried before but this is the first time it's really worked.

Shape Up app.

Counting calories, measuring portions & recording on app has been better than any particular kind of diet.

I found though, the best eats for the calories spent led to reduced carb intake.

good luck. it's hard

I've lost 30 in 4 mos, first 10 on my own, the rest with a meal replacement program through a local hospital. A friend did a meal replacement plan at GW and lost 110 in 8mos.

I've done WW and it just aggravated me. If you do a medial weight loss program like a meal replacement, just make sure you do it right. Getting to the ketosis state when your body burns fat stores requires a high protein intake and you should be monitored closely. The thing is, it works, it totally works. I wasn't hungry, didn't crave sweets, nothing like that. I also had weekly group sessions that helped immensely. I found the additional clinical knowledge empowering.

Well, I'll be 42 in two weeks and am 5'1", so I'm closest to your stats of anyone here. Dropped from 123 to 95 between March and August, so it can be done. Good luck!!

YES- I lost over 70lbs in one year on Medifast in 8 months. But you have to transition slowly back to non-Medifast food. And change your eating habits and approach to food. I did it at 44 and kept it ALL off do it can be done!

OP back. THANKS for all of the inspiring stories. Did you guys lose weight pretty steadily or slower as you got smaller? As evidenced in my goals, I am assuming that it will only get harder as time goes on. Also, did you give yourself rewards along the way? I am trying to decide what I should do for myself if I meet a three-month goal.
