Mother in law is a big tea person visiting here for the first time in a long time during the holidays. I'd like to take her out somewhere nice for tea. Can't get into the national cathedral tea but was thinking maybe the Willard or the Jefferson? Any ideas or reviews?
My mom and I enjoyed the tea at the Strathmore.
Loved the Willard - beautiful spot in the heart of DC. Plus the tea and assorted confections were wonderful. Good service. It was really fun. Plus free valet for your car. I haven't been to the Jefferson. The other place I've had tea is the Mayflower which was nice too, though I think I liked the Willard better.

Been to the mayflower, 4 seasons when they had it and the ritz in Tyson's. Loved the 4 seasons best.
|
the mandarian oriental does an amazing tea
Mayflower is my favorite - Williard (Peacock Alley) is my least. 4 seasons is wonderful, but I think only the one in Tyson's does tea now
Mayflower is so wonderful.
Jefferson
I liked the Mayflower best. Willard is good as well.
Funny, I have had tea all over the DC area, and the Mayflower was one of my least favorites. My favorites were the Ritz Carlton at Pentagon City and the small hotel on Mass Ave near the convention center with the Coer de Lion restaurant. I can't recall the name of the hotel at the moment. OOh wait, I think it is called the Henley Park Hotel.
This sounds like a good time, I never knew hotels offered this. How does this work? Do you sign up ahead of time or just stop by?
I was somewhat meh on the Willard. I think it's odd that they do it in a hallway.
Took the kids to the Willard last year for Christmas and was not particularly impressed with the food or the setting. More recently, I had a very nice tea at the Jefferson. The hotel's design is much more chic than the Willard, which looks a little fusty.
Does the Hay Adams still do it?
Call ahead for a reservation. Many places don't do it every day, only on weekends. |
