Expectant and Postpartum Moms
| I'm going for my first OB appointment tomorrow (woo!) and wondering if anyone can fill me in on what to expect. I know from talking to the woman who set up my appointment that there will be a lot of family history and bloodwork, but would love to know more from someone who's already been. Thanks so much! |

It's been a long while since my first visit there - but from what I remember - they weigh you and measure you and take a urine sample. This is true for every visit. So, be sure to drink lots of fluids before your appointment. I was dehydrated on my first appointment, and they had a lot of trouble drawing all the vials of blood that they needed. And then after, forms, family history, bloodwork, they'll explain their practice and procedure. Be prepared to book your future monthly appointments and sonograms. It's much easier to do it all at the first appointment.
Good luck and congratulations! |
| My first appt (7 months ago) also had a vaginal ultrasound (you might want to call to see if you're getting one because you'll need a full bladder). |
My experience with RHJ practice has been good. This is my first pregancy and I'm to deliver soon. I've seen most of the drs. All of them have been good...no one sticks out in particular. I liked Dr. Hill b/c of his dry sense of humor. Also found Muffy the nurse to be very sweet and caring when I was feeling unwell. Their on-call service is fairly quick to respond and staff are nice. I used to go to the DC location but much prefer the FC location which is smaller and less wait time and crowds. Also staff seem nicer there too.
