Did you waste your money buying a house to get access to MCPS?

I would be interested to know what someone else would say. We bring in a consultant at work and sometimes we get lots of criticism and then the next year there is a new contract and everything is rosy even though nothing has changed too much.

huh? johns Hopkins doesn't own a curriculum. they're suggested MCPS adopt an established curriculum, which they literally say in the audit could be something that's available for free online. this isn't a consulting firm; it's a university charged with doing an objective audit.

can you people please read the freaking audit before trying to spread conspiracy theories?

sorry -- "they're" should be "they"

Saying people are freaking out over one organization's opinion is not spreading a conspiracy theory...it is pretty much the opposite of that.

I just want to know if the new curriculum better or worse?! Please have them bring textbooks back!

I think Dr. Smith did the right thing bringing them in and now is doing the right thing in acting on their recommendations. I'm not sure what else they could have done. I didn't here MCCPTA or any PTAs leading a charge to change the curriculum or any of the Teachers for that matter.

Sure they deserve some blame but they are also being proactive in trying to fix the issues.

And what were they supposed to do, back when common core started there really wasn't much choice for a district as big as MCPS for curriculum so they had to write their own.

They could have waited to implement a new curriculum. Let you their districts be the guinea pig, rather than our children.

DO NOT VOTE For anyone who has been a principal or administrator at MCPS. You need parents on the board. DO NOT VOTE FOR ANY ex or present MCPS employee.

And throw out Patrica O'Neil. She crows that she has been on BOE for 20 years. Should she not resign in shame for her part in mucking up the best public school system in the country?

Throw out Durso and Docca.

Vote these jokers out!

I am an over-represented minority. You could be right. I found that middle class people were poorly educated in this 1st world country when I immigrated here from a third world country. Your education in FCPS a few decades ago could have been even more substandard than what is being taught in MCPS today. I do not doubt that.

My kids fall smack dab in the wave of 2.0. They are 13 and 14. They got a heavy dose of 2.0 and any changes that are planned won’t gelp them one bit.
It has been years of complaining, tutoring, frustration and a stint at a private school that we couldn’t afford.
The only upside for me is if they fix the schools (I can’t imagine it getting any worse), my property value will probably improve.
I feel as if my kids were cheated and as a parent, I was exhausted.
My distrust will persist because these public servants betrayed us.

Yes we felt like we wasted our money buying a house here, in part to go to MCPS.

In retrospect I wish we had bought in McLean and gone to public school there. Common Core - which they declined to sign up for - did not screw up their curriculum, incentives, and teachers like it did here.

When I vote, I consider actual experience to be an advantage, not a disqualifier. But of course we all get to make these decisions for ourselves.

I negatively discount one's experience being a self-serving idiot, thus will be voting them all out.

PP, you can't vote against someone. You have to vote for someone.

For someone who lives in WDC area, I'm disappointed you still don't know what "vote someone out means".
