David Catania has been lobbying for the Lab School. He's as close as they come in DC to a Republican.

You mean as close as they come in DC to a lobbyist? A lobbyist is a lobbyist no matter the party. Plenty from all parties in DC. Vote anyone Republican. The liberals are not, have not and presumably will not make good decisions on crony giveaways. The proof is in the pudding. They simply have chosen not to. So lets try something new, at least it will send a message .

I don't get your logic. We have both Democrats and Republicans pushing forth a sweetheart deal related to the Lab School, but vote Republican, because their newness makes them less corrupt? No thanks. That's the logic that brought Trump into power.

We have a liberal, Democratic council giving away everything. That is fact. Who are the Republican councilmembers pushing this deal? Please clarify.

See the earlier reference to Catania being one of the lobbyists for this deal.

He's not even on the council any longer, so are there any current Republican members of the council giving away the Lab School?

Does anyone have an update? Wasn't there supposed to be a public comment process?

Here's the message: hey inner-city Black people, vote GOP because what have you got to lose?

PP sounds like a troll who doesn't live in or understand the District. The council has liberal Democrats AND independents because DC has a largely liberal population. The only Republicans who get elected in DC are RINOs (Carol Schwartz, Catania pre-independent status, Patrick Mara). We have plenty of GOP interference as it is. Why would we vote for more?

And what the hell does this have to do with repairing a leased old school building that the city doesn't use?

Save the outrage for Trump hotel sweetheart giveaway. How many Republicans will help undo that tax haven/fee advertising monstrosity?

I'm from DC thanks, and we need more Carol Schwarzs. A homegrown Republican is very different from a congressional rep from another district -,though I am actually thankful we don't have "home rule" given our liberal council run amok. Yes, I was born here. Yes, I am allowed to urge people to show our liberal councilmembers who are behind these constant unsavory giveaways to the door. Perhaps you live in ward 3 and your initials are M.C.? Yes, vote Republican. At the least it will show the people giving away valuable school property to a private entity, the people who refuse to reform the youth crime rehabilitation act, the people who rammed through the 8 shelter deal that they don't have a lock on power. Plus, many Republican governance ideas are fantastic. When I lol at future ballots i will vote anyone who is Republican. If insanity like the Lab transaction bothers you, you should look at who is behind it and send them a message with your vote.

+1 the kids at lab are primarily the lucky subsegment of the SN population ones whose parents can pay 45-60k for their education annually or pay for a good special needs lawyer to fight DCPS so that they pay.

The DC ones, yes. But most of the kids are from out of state. The latest OSSE audit shows a total of 46 DCPS-funded kids out of an enrollment of around 375.

Just updating a bit. http://www.labschool.org/page/about/mission--fast-facts

Another update: OSSE has released the enrollment audit for School Year 2015-16, Lab is down to 37 DCPS-funded. Less than 10%.

Dies anyone attend who private-pays or are all the students sent by public school systems?

This should be the site for the new ward 3 homeless shelter. Done.

Lots of private pays (I think the majority of kids are private pay). Including kids of the rich and famous, like the son of Ben Bradlee. That's why many people resent giving a sweetheart deal on a public school facility to a wealthy private school.
