| Do you think people in Potomac start there conversations with " I could afford silver spring but I chose to live here instead". |
| SHAW! |
|
To all the non-believers:
In real life I do not start my conversations 'I could live in Bethesda but choose to live in Silver Spring" I am defending the argument "all people who live in Silver Spring only do so because they can't afford anywhere else" You have no proof of this so you attack me. Just because you can't believe it doesn't make it not so. I bet there are people who live in SS but want to move to Bethesda but I'm not one of them. I don't care if you don't believe me. This is the last comment I am making because you aren't answering any questions that I gave you...like WHERE IS YOUR PROOF! |

this thread makes me hungry for my cousins artisanal indian pickles... ripped off of my mom's recipes. Yum:

| Hyattsville is trying to be hip. It hasn't quite succeeded yet, but maybe it will get there someday. |
' I'd say Hyattsville is pretty hip. |
| Petworth is right on. Our block is full of families with young kids, and for $3000-3500/mo you could likely rent a renovated 3-4BR rowhouse. I would focus on the southern part near the metro - you can walk to a farmers market, renovated library, 2 new grocery stores, a great coffee shop and tons of small shops and restaurants. You are likely priced out of Shaw, but it also has more crime and way fewer kids. Petworth also has a terrific neighborly vibe and a strong sense of community. Powell Elementary has a sought after dual language program and there are also many great charter schools, including several excellent ones in the neighborhood. |
Count me as category 1. According to your description, SS sounds like a diverse, middle class community. A great place to live for this down to earth person. DC people can be so full of themselves that it actually makes me sick and worry about my children who have to grow up here. |
Me thinks she protests a bit too much |
Same. DC is a second tier city with fourth tier assholes, will probably move back to the promised land of CA to raise my kids right. |
Sadly, I have. |
+1 always found Bethesda kind of boring even white bread |
| DT Silver Spring has a thriving diverse community, but if you’re a raging bigot it probably want to look elsewhere. |
| Although I wouldn’t classify SS as especially hip, I agree with the PP that SS is thriving and diverse place. It also has an amazing farmer’s market on Saturdays that is more extensive than the one's either Takoma or Dupont. It’s located on that pedestrian only street not far from the AFI or the outdoor ice rink next to the Whole Foods. |
Not quite the same thing, but when we moved from silver spring to Potomac 2.5 years ago, it was because we couldn't afford silver spring! We wanted to move from our shoebox sized house that we bought pre-kids to a slightly larger house, and we couldn't find anything affordable in inside-the-beltway silver spring. So, it does work in reverse, sort of. |
